Line of Events

Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, also known as The Penguin, is attempting to take over Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from the bat signal in the final image of the season finale, we never got our Robert Pattinson cameo as The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought tooth and nail to get his version of The Penguin to smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but he couldn’t.

However, in his own series, the character is portrayed as a casual tobacco user, preferring cigars. The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo.

I thought Colin Farrell was great as the Penguin in Batman, but I never understood casting a lanky, handsome, athletic actor and putting him in a giant prosthetic and a bulky suit… especially when I think he looks like other famous actors who would be just as good. I didn’t really understand why this spin-off was even made, and honestly, I’m sick of Batman reboots.

But after episode 1, I can confirm that this show is amazing (so far). I only watched it because I knew it needed to be a bridge between the first and second movies and my surprising enjoyment of Farrell’s performance in the first. The acting is amazing, the script is excellent, and it surprised me with some quick plot twists.

What I liked most was that it had a lot more color than Batman

I noticed this almost immediately, as it was a huge criticism of the film for me (I felt like I was watching it through Zack Snyder’s lens). I hope it’s as good as this, because I honestly can’t wait for the next installment.
